Produced by Hoshino Seichaen in Yame, Fukuoka. Famous for their high-grade shaded teas such as Gyokuro and Matcha, Hoshino Seichaen has been producing tea in the foggy mountain village of Yame for almost 80 years.
Hien
The best-selling Gyokuro from Hoshino Seichaen. Hien is carefully made using the traditional Gyokuro manufacturing method.
Gyokuro is shaded green tea, and often regarded as the highest grade of Japanese tea. The shading means the tea is sweet and umami, without bitterness or astringency.

Gyokuro - Hien (Shaded Green Tea)
How to Prepare Gyokuro
- Add 3g of gyokuro leaves to a kyusu (Japanese teapot).
- Add 60ml of water at around 50–60°C.
- Allow the tea to infuse for around 90 seconds to 120 seconds, then pour evenly into cups. Be sure to empty the teapot completely.
- The same leaves can be used for 2–3 infusions. For the second infusion, use slightly hotter water and steep briefly for 10 seconds.
