Keiko Uchida and the Art of Tea

Keiko Uchida is one of the finest specialist tea merchants in Europe, offering a treasury of the most exceptional Japanese teas, travelling to the hill farms and traders in Japan to discover outstanding and rare creations for her UK and worldwide customers.

She has also spent years as a specialist in Japanese ceramics, which play a leading role in the art of tea, and her travels in Japan have involved her in developing close ties to many significant potters and kilns, as well as making exceptional discoveries.

Keiko Uchida’s London store is at 120 Talbot Road in Notting Hill, where we are able to present a large range of our collection of Japanese matcha and green teas, as well as outstanding artist and studio ceramics from Japan, alongside other tea ware. We also offer a full range online.

As a passionate champion of the art of tea, Keiko has been practicing the Japanese Tea Ceremony for over 25 years, and is well known for running Tea Ceremony Workshops, both at the London store and at special events around the world.

We hope you enjoy exploring the website. Do please get in touch. We will be happy to send you special offers and our latest news. You can also find out here all about the Tea Ceremony and how to take part. And there are ways you can enjoy discounts through our Arigato rewards plan.

A Japanese Tea Master

Born in Tokyo, Keiko Uchida has been steeped in Japanese culture from an early age - her mother is a renowned Kimono specialist, and her father developed traditional tea rooms. For decades she learned the Tea Ceremony with Japanese Masters before becoming a Tea Master herself.

She set up her own tea studio in London in 2015, and created the Tea Ceremony Workshops, which have allowed her to share the Art of Tea, and her love of Matcha, with a huge range clients and audiences - from school children to the Governor of Tokyo, and from rock stars to world leaders with the UN.

Having practiced the Japanese tea ceremony for over 25 years, it is Keiko’s mission to share her passion with a diverse international audience.

People We Work With

Keiko Uchida works closely with her clients, ensuring the services she offers, and her deep understanding of Japanese culture, can provide unique benefits to individuals or organisations. The quality and authenticity of this approach has created extraordinary outcomes, whether through the experience of tea or the Tea Ceremony itself, or the culture of ceramics.

Her engagement with an extraordinary list of clients since 2015 shows the strength of how relevant the Art of Tea can be to so many lives and worlds. Many of them significant names in their field.

In the arts, names such as the Serpentine Galleries, the Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Ditchling Museum and Art and Craft. Media companies like Spotify and Disney+, as well as beauty houses such as Aesop and Suqqu. Multi-nationals like Nitto and the Boston Consulting Group, and even administrations like the United Nations and the Japanese Government. And that is on top of all the private individuals, who have included politicians and musicians, as well as those in extreme situations who have found deep solace, help and healing in the wisdoms and beauties of Japanese tea.

Many of these clients have written glowing testimonials about Keiko Uchida’s work.

Our Japanese Ceramics Collection

The extraordinary relationship between pottery and the Tea Ceremony is at the heart Keiko Uchida’s outstanding collection of Japanese ceramics, and it represents some of the key families of Japanese pottery, notable kilns and areas, as well as new works Keiko has discovered on her journeys into the hills.

These include Mashiko artists such as the Hamada potters, Shoji and his grandson Tomoo, Fujiya Sakuma, head of the Mashiko Porcelain Association; Kan Matsuzaki (son of Mingei master Ken Matsuzaki); and the Karatsu potter Koji Inoue.

There are examples of exquisite beauty and interest, and a wide range of price levels. The collection also features studio pieces, limited editions that include ranges of teapots and teacups, plates and other tea ware. The ceramics are on display in our London store, and are also available online.
