The traditional shioyaki (salt-firing) technique used in their creation involves introducing salt into the kiln at high temperatures, resulting in a natural, semi-matte glaze with beautiful, unique variations. These subtle hues make the set particularly well-suited for serving matcha, as the colour of the tea contrasts strikingly with the glaze.
This guinomi small cup is ideal for sake, tea and other versatile serving uses. Enjoy the texture of the salt induced grooves and pair it with its own shioyaki pouring pot by the same artist found here.
Its slightly curved rim makes it easier on the lips to appreciate the warm tea, the ceramic curves the tea into your mouth gracefully to let it cool down to the perfect ideal temperature.
Mashiko in Japan is renowned for its ceramics, celebrated for combining functional design with rich textures that highlight the natural beauty of clay and glaze. To care for the set, gently clean with a soft cloth, avoid abrasive cleaners, and store in a dry place to preserve the finish. This set blends tradition with artistry, making it a timeless addition to any tea or sake ritual.
This handmade cup comes with its own signed traditional Japanese wooden box.
Please note the small guinomi cups are sold separately. You can pair it with the other shioyaki guinomi cup found here.
