Fujiya Sakuma (b. 1963)
The award-winning potter Sakuma has been the head of the Mashiko Porcelain Association since 2005. His grandfather, Totaro Sakuma (1900-1976), worked with the world-famous potter Shoji Hamada to develop the Mingei (‘People’s Art’) movement in Mashiko. Sakuma has become famous for his particular Mingei style
and elegant colour palette.
This exquisite flower vase by acclaimed potter Fujiya Sakuma captures the essence of the Mashiko Mingei (‘People’s Art’) movement. As the head of the Mashiko Porcelain Association, Sakuma is celebrated for his refined approach to earthy tones and elegant design.
With its striking diamond-shaped form, this tall vase makes a stunning statement in any space. The soft, natural color palette beautifully complements fresh flowers, making it an ideal piece for both modern and traditional settings. Each vase is a true reflection of the Mingei philosophy, where craftsmanship and beauty meet.
To enhance its presentation, the vase comes with a traditional wooden box, secured with a Japanese ribbon, making it a perfect gift or collector’s treasure. This piece not only serves as a functional flower holder but as a work of art, blending history, elegance, and timeless craftsmanship.
