The madagaratsu middle cup style is a distinctive form of Karatsu ware known for its balanced and moderate design. Typically of medium size, it strikes a harmonious proportion, neither too large nor too small, making it ideal for both the tea ceremony and daily use. The simplicity of its shape—often slightly curved or cylindrical—emphasises practicality and elegance, with an understated charm that blends seamlessly into the ritual of tea preparation and consumption.
Madagaratsu is a type of Karatsu ware featuring a straw ash glaze. In reduction firing, the glaze develops a milky white colour with a bluish tint, while oxidation firing results in a yellowish tone. The effect is especially striking when used for sake, and the "Madakaratsu Sake Cup" is a refined piece, truly deserving of the title "king of sake cups. The innovative shape makes it perfect and versatile for any use.
Handmade by Koji Inoue and using the finest raw materials from the local region, this is an ideal way to make you savour any liquid to its last drop. The neutral colours on the inside highlight those bright red sauces and green matcha to highlight its natural properties.
