A lacquer-coated wooden natsume tea caddy used in the Japanese tea ceremony from the Yamanaka region of Japan. This striking natsume features a crane emblem on the body, a black lacquered interior, and a handwritten poem in red calligraphy. This natsume comes with its own signed wooden box.
Traditionally, natsume are used to store matcha for usucha (thin tea) during the tea ceremony. As they are not airtight, matcha is usually transferred from a tin or bag and sieved into the natsume just before the ceremony. This piece is ideal for a student of the tea ceremony or anyone who regularly enjoys matcha.
Care instructions: Gently wipe with a soft cloth after use.
