Crafted by Midori Noto, these beautifully handcrafted katakuchi pouring pots exemplifies the quiet elegance and timeless craftsmanship of Mashiko ceramics. The katakuchi features a distinct spouted form, originally designed for pouring liquids such as sake yet its versatility extends far beyond. It can also be used as a small serving bowl for tea or matcha mixing.

Each piece is hand-thrown and shaped with care, showcasing the artist’s deep reverence for Japan’s rich pottery traditions. Midori Noto

Born in 1976, Noto Midori is a celebrated ceramic artist based in Mashiko, a town renowned for its rich pottery heritage. His work reflects natural textures, organic forms, and a quiet, understated beauty. Rooted in tradition yet carrying a timeless modernity, his designs balance functionality with artistic expression.

He trained under the respected potter Narui Tsunao, founder of the Narui kiln in Mashiko, where he developed a deep connection to the region’s ceramic history and philosophy. Working diligently in the mountains, removed from the distractions of modern technology, Noto handcrafts each piece with care and intention. Alongside his wife, a glassmaker, he sustains a life devoted to material, process, and the enduring legacy of Mashiko ceramics.
