A premium bamboo whisk, handmade in Japan.
Each chasen is crafted from a single piece of high-quality, white Japanese bamboo, ensuring a unique, eco-friendly whisk with every creation. The bamboo is air-dried, free from pesticides and bleach, and made without glue, preserving its natural integrity.
Our 'Sen' chasen, with their beautifully rounded tops and delicately curled tines, are crafted to bring out the best in your matcha experience. The unique design ensures a gentle, precise whisking motion, enhancing the smoothness and flavour of your tea. While the fine, curved tines are thinner and more delicate, this thoughtful craftsmanship allows for an even, thorough mix.
Choose the chasen that best fits your matcha preference, whether you’re after a frothy, airy drink or a more robust, dense texture. Our 'Sen' chasen is expertly designed to create a wonderfully frothy matcha, with its rounded top and finely curled tines helping to whisk air into your tea for a smooth, creamy foam. This makes it ideal for those who love a light, frothy bowl of matcha.
However, if you prefer a richer, thicker brew, such as koicha (a more concentrated form of matcha, traditionally enjoyed in a thicker consistency), we also offer a slim shin chasen on our website, perfect for whisking up a denser, more intense tea.
Whatever your preference, we have the ideal tool to enhance your matcha experience. Why not pair this chasen with one of our premium matcha powders from Kyoto?
How to Make Perfect Matcha:
We recommend you use not quite boiling water, around 80°C works well.
If you are using a chashaku (a Japanese bamboo teaspoon) we recommend 2 scoops, or 1 scoop from an ordinary teaspoon (approx. 1.5g)
- Add 2 scoops of matcha powder to your tea bowl or cup.
- Pour around 70ml of not quite boiling water into the tea bowl.
- Whisk the matcha with the chasen in an 'M' shape for about 15 seconds until smooth and slightly foamy.
- Relax and enjoy!
To keep your chasen in the best condition, we recommend you soak the prongs in warm water before each use.
Rinse in hot water after use. You can also wash in soapy water every now and then.
Bamboo is a natural material and can split if it is dried out. Store in a cool place.
