Premium Chasen (Bamboo Whisk)
Premium Chasen (Bamboo Whisk)
A premium bamboo whisk, handmade in Nara, Japan.
Made in Takayama, Nara, a studio running by a family of craftsmen who have been making chasen whisks for over 500 years.
They have been acknowledged by the Japanese Government as one of the top craftsmen in Japan. Each chasen differs slightly from the next, depending on the characteristics of the bamboo. Artisans such as Mr Kubo can see the differences in texture and density that many other chasen makers might miss. This results in a unique, perfectly crafted whisk every time.
Handcrafted from a single piece of white Japanese bamboo, this whisk is essential for making perfect matcha.
Why not pair this chasen with one of our premium matcha powders from Kyoto?
How to Make Perfect Matcha:
We recommend you use not quite boiling water, around 80°C works well.
If you are using a chashaku (a Japanese bamboo teaspoon) we recommend 2 scoops, or 1 scoop from an ordinary teaspoon (approx. 1.5g)
- Add 2 scoops of matcha powder to your tea bowl or cup.
- Pour around 70ml of not quite boiling water into the tea bowl.
- Whisk the matcha with the chasen in an 'M' shape for about 15 seconds until smooth and slightly foamy.
- Relax and enjoy!
To keep your chasen in the best condition, we recommend you soak the prongs in warm water before each use.
Rinse in hot water after use. You can also wash in soapy water every now and then.
Bamboo is a natural material and can split if it is dried out. Store in a cool place.
