This exceptional gyokuro comes from Yame, the region most revered for producing Japan’s finest shaded green teas. Yame gyokuro is particularly celebrated for its deep umami, natural sweetness and velvety body — qualities shaped by a misty climate, mineral-rich soils and generations of skilled craftsmanship.

This is a true Hon Gyokuro, the most traditional and exacting style of gyokuro production. The tea gardens are covered with natural rice straw for several weeks before harvest, a meticulous shading method that dramatically increases amino acids and draws out maximum umami while softening bitterness. The result is a tea of profound depth, elegance and balance.

In the cup, this refined gyokuro offers a smooth, silky body with a deep umami core. Fresh vegetal notes lead into elegant layers of seaweed and kombu, finishing with a clean, lingering, freshly picked umami. Iconic gyokuro depth and harmony in every infusion.

Gyokuro — meaning “jade dew” — is Japan’s most prestigious green tea. Shading the bushes before harvest heightens sweetness and savoury character, yielding a luminous, lingering liquor with notes of sea greens and fresh cream. Similar to matcha in its nutrient profile, this loose-leaf, hand-rolled needle-shaped gyokuro delivers those vital benefits in a beautifully expressive leaf format.

Renowned not only for its flavour but also for its refinement, gyokuro is naturally rich in L-theanine and antioxidants, offering calm, focused energy and a moment of quiet indulgence. Keiko Uchida’s Yame gyokuro is a tea to be brewed slowly and appreciated fully — a pure expression of place, tradition and care.
