Gold Medal-Winning Garden at Chelsea Flower Show Hosts Keiko Uchida's Tea Ceremony

May 2025

We are honoured to have taken part in this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, performing the Japanese Tea Ceremony at the stunning Komorebi Garden, a gold medal-winning show garden designed by Masa Taniguchi of Garden Club London.

The Komorebi Garden, Masa’s debut at Chelsea, drew inspiration from traditional Japanese gardens and the poetic Japanese word komorebi, which refers to the dappled light filtering through tree canopies. The garden’s charcoal-lined black walls subtly echoed the charcoal used in tea ceremony hearths, making the tea ceremony an integral part of the design.

Keiko was deeply moved to perform the tea ceremony at the heart of this thoughtful, tranquil space — a perfect setting surrounded by the soft rustle of leaves and gentle light. Sharing matcha with our guests in this peaceful garden felt wonderfully natural, and I was touched by how open, relaxed, and appreciative everyone was.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Masa, Garden Club London, and the entire team on their well-deserved Gold Medal — an extraordinary achievement for a first-time Chelsea designer.

Being part of this experience, both as a tea practitioner and a lifelong lover of gardens, was a dream come true.
