Learning how to make an iced matcha latte at home is simple, refreshing, and perfect for warmer months. With just a few ingredients, you can create a smooth, café-style drink using traditional Japanese matcha.
Below is a simple method you can follow.
Ingredients & Method
If you are using a chashaku (Japanese bamboo teaspoon), we recommend 4 scoops, or 2 scoops using an ordinary teaspoon (approx. 3g).
- Pass your matcha powder through a tea strainer into a tea bowl
- Pour around 60ml of hot water (below 80°C) into the bowl
- Whisk for around 15 seconds with a chasen (bamboo whisk) until smooth
- Fill a glass with ice and your choice of milk (dairy or plant-based)
- Pour the matcha over the milk and stir gently
For the best iced matcha latte, we recommend using organic matcha Uraku or Aoarashi. These matcha varieties have a slightly stronger flavour that balances beautifully with milk.
Tips for the Perfect Iced Matcha Latte
- Use high-quality matcha for a smoother, less bitter taste
- Always sift your matcha before whisking
- Do not use boiling water, as it can affect flavour
- Oat, almond, soy, or dairy milk all work well depending on preference
Enjoy!
