Floral Lacquerware Plate

Regular price £160.00
Taxes included.

This small, shallow keepsake dish is a quietly radiant example of Yamanaka urushi at its most poetic. Conceived as an objet d’art rather than a purely functional vessel, the plate invites close viewing, rewarding the eye with layers of symbolism, craft and seasonal beauty.

Across its surface unfolds a gathering of flowers from all four seasons, forming a complete cycle of time and nature. Sakura blossoms evoke spring and the fleeting beauty of life; iris, associated with early summer, symbolise protection and quiet strength; the lush peony speaks of prosperity, elegance and honour; and the autumn chrysanthemum, long linked with longevity and renewal, brings the year to a contemplative close. Together, they create a harmonious vision of balance, continuity and gentle abundance.

The dish is finished in traditional Yamanaka urushi, one of the most celebrated lacquerware traditions of Ishikawa Prefecture. Yamanaka is particularly renowned for its exceptional wood-turning techniques and refined lacquer finishes, developed over centuries in response to the region’s climate and rich craft culture. The combination of precise form and luminous surface has made Yamanaka urushi highly prized for its elegance, strength and subtle beauty.

The piece is perfectly suited to holding cherished objects, or simply to be displayed and admired—an elegant meditation on seasonality, craftsmanship and the enduring quiet power of Japanese lacquer art.
