Some recipes feel extra special — and this is one of them. These beautiful Matcha, Vanilla & Chocolate Swirl Cookies were kindly shared with us by a fellow matcha lover and long-term customer. This recipe was simply too good not to pass on. With its unique three-flavour design and buttery texture, it’s quickly become a favourite.
Let’s get into the recipe.
Ingredients
- 90g unsalted butter, softened
- 50g sugar
- 120g plain flour
- 6g matcha powder
- 6g unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Method
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (fan) or 160°C (gas mark 4). Line a baking tray with baking parchment.
2. Make the Base Dough
In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and slightly fluffy.
Add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms. If it feels crumbly, bring it together gently with your hands.
3. Divide and Flavour
Divide the dough evenly into three bowls.
- In one bowl, mix in the matcha powder.
- In the second bowl, add the cocoa powder.
- In the third bowl, stir in the vanilla extract.
You’ll now have three separate doughs: matcha, chocolate, and vanilla.
4. Shape the Cookies
Pinch off equal-sized pieces from each dough (roughly the size of a small walnut).
If the dough is too soft to handle, place it in the fridge for 10–15 minutes to firm up slightly.
Take one piece of each flavour and arrange them in a triangle. Press them together gently, then roll into a ball in your hands until the colours begin to blend slightly. Flatten the ball into a disc and place it on the prepared baking tray.
Repeat with the remaining dough.
5. Bake
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden.
Leave the biscuits to cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Serving Suggestions
These biscuits are lovely with a cup of tea, coffee, or even served with a scoop of ice cream. They also make a thoughtful homemade gift – simply wrap in parchment and tie with string.
A big thank you once again to the kind customer and fellow matcha enthusiast who shared this recipe with us. It’s a lovely reminder of the small but meaningful ways that recipes can bring people together.
Happy baking!
