It’s not so easy to be constantly optimistic during these cold grey days at home, especially with all the Covid news. So I’m doing some meditation and affirmation each morning, which certainly helps. I also love the first cup of tea in the morning, which makes me feel gentle and good. As everyone is aware, physical and mental health go hand in hand, and it’s great to share the benefits of green tea and matcha tea.
Green tea contains quite a lot of antioxidants, called catechins. (Their official name is EGCG - epigallocatechin gallate.) Matcha tea contains much more catechins than green tea. Some believe catechins might have cancer-fighting effects also, as well as preventing heart disease, and Type 2 diabetes, and that research shows that catechins might also encourage weight loss. A study indicates that some people who drink green tea also have reduced levels of bad cholesterol, and it is believed that green tea could be linked to lower blood pressure too. However, this research is not based on clinical trials, and tea makers do not sell matcha tea as medicine. These studies are population based studies.
Traditionally, we eat sweets before having a cup of matcha tea, to enjoy the harmony of sweetness and bitterness. I have to confess that I love to have white chocolate and matcha tea together. If you like to drink sweet tea, you can put some soy, almond milk or cow’s milk with a little sugar and enjoy a cup of matcha latte. In this case, I recommend to put one more bamboo spoon of matcha in, as milk has got a powerful taste.
